Drought affected communities finding relief with Salti
Communities in the Upper Hunter and Central West NSW will be enjoying Salti group fitness classes this summer thanks to Lifeguarding Services Australia (LSA).
Molong, Forbes, Merriwa, Murrurundi and Scone pools, managed by LSA are at the heart of drought affected communities, and these classes will offer a way to bring people together to encourage wellbeing, health and fitness, while providing relief during difficult times.
These regions are impacted by extreme water restrictions, however the councils are committed to keeping their public swimming pools open as the social and wellness values of the facilities are vital to the local communities.
Molong pool has been filled entirely with bore water due to the continuing drought, so maintaining the local playing fields and pool would not impact drinking water.
With the Upper Hunter Council using semi-trailers to bring in water daily to keep the pool and town water running. The Council will cart in water from Scone, to open the Murrurundi pool during the busiest season, costing $20,000 plus $4500 each month it's open.
With statistics showing that Australians living in remote areas are less active than those in major cities, this is an important initiative by LSA. Staff from each of the venues joined our Master Trainer for instructor training and are ready to be starting classes in the coming weeks.
